Stuart Beach -  889 NE Ocean Blvd, Stuart, FL 34996, behind the Fire Station and Elliot Museum (currently under renovation). During the summer months, check out the sea turtle nests. Tell your family and friends about the different species that nest in Martin County.

 

Indian Riverside Park - 1707 NE Indian River Dr, Jensen Beach, FL 34957

This park is operated by Martin County and the perfect place to view Indian River Lagoon ecosystems. Amenities include pavilions, fishing dock, and interactive play fountain. Click HERE for more detailed information.

House of Refuge & Anastasia Limestone formations - 301 SE MacArthur Blvd., Stuart, FL 34996

To climb in the "caves" through the limestone, arrive near the time of low tide. To find out what time low tide is on the day you'll visit, click here and choose the Seminole Shores, Florida location.
       There is a museum on the property which can be toured; more about that here.

DragonBoats - Treasure Coast Dragon Boats are available for charter to groups large and small. Call Mr. & Mrs. Schelmety at 772-286-1352.

Bathtub Beach and Reef - 1585 SE MacArthur Blvd, Stuart

This beach provides access to a live reef system created by marine worms known as Phragmatopoma Caudata. Schools of fish gather along the reef and shallow waters make it enjoyable for everyone.



Jonathan Dickinson State Park - 16450 S.E. Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, Florida 33455       (772) 546-2771

Hobe Mountain is located within the Jonathan Dickinson Park. For more information about the park, click HERE.
Within the park, The Loxahatchee Queen, a pontoon boat,  has daily scheduled trips on the Loxahatchee River. During high tide, the boat brings visitors to the Trapper Nelson Interpretive Site. More about the Loxahatchee Queen HERE.




Martin County Oyster Reef Restoration
During Camp WET, students create oyster reef habitat by gathering cultch into bags that will be deployed into the St. Lucie River, which is joined to the Indian River Lagoon. This will draw in live oyster cultivation. Oysters are an important water filter (cleaner) and

to the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program. They support Camp WET financially and in return, we educate youth and their families by raising awareness and respect for the Indian River Lagoon.

The South Florida Water Management District supports Camp WET.

The Environmental Studies Council supports the Environmental Studies Center through community stewardship and various community-based fundraising and educational activities.


Students participating in Camp WET are selected by a classroom teacher or other member of the Martin County School District. They show an appreciation for the environment and interest in developing concepts in environmental sciences.

Students register through the Environmental Studies Center and support Camp WET with a nominal registration fee.

What Are We Doing Today??

Each day begins with flag-rasing and a "WET Meeting" to discuss the day's events. Every day concludes with another "WET Meeting" which includes a review of the day, specimen investigations and a slideshow of photos taken that day. Always remember that activities are subject to change due to weather!

Week One

MONDAY-Welcome to Camp WET! In the morning you will meet your counselors and teammates, take a pre-test and enjoy your first cool-off. After lunch at Stuart Beach, we will go seining in the Indian River Lagoon.

TUESDAY-We'll explore the Anastasia Limestone formations at the House of Refuge. We'll also have time for seining, castnetting and handline fishing. We will be taking “TEAM PICTURES” for a Camp WET craft project.

WEDNESDAY -  The ESC GIFT SHOP will be open today! Bring a few dollars if you’d like a souvenir.We’ll construct ReefBalls and oyster Bags that will provide habitat in our rivers and ocean. Extra long cool-offs after all our hard work! 

THURSDAY- Bring a mask for our snorkeling adventure at Bathtub Reef. If you don't have one, we have masks available to borrow for free.
FRIDAY- We will explore the Indian River Lagoon aboard our boat River Scout. Bring close-toed shoes to wear on the boat. We’ll end the day with a SURPRISE!

 

 Week Two

Monday- WEAR YOUR CAMP WET T-SHIRT FOR WET BUCK$!
Today we will visit Jonathan Dickinson State Park. We will explore the Loxahatchee River aboard the Loxahatchee Queen, learn about Trapper Nelson and climb to the top of Hobe Mountain…the highest point in South Florida!

Tuesday-  Camp WET adventures and cool offs! We'll take a trip to the St. Lucie Lock and Dam to see where Lake Okeechobee is drained into the St. Lucie River.

Wednesday- DragonBoats today at the Stuart Causeway. Bring an EXTRA water bottle for your trip! Wear a HAT if you can! Do you know an adult who would like to paddle the DragonBoats with us? Have them contact Mrs. Johnson or Mrs. Speaks

Thursday-Today is the sand sculpture contest, the first event of the Camp WET Olympics! LAST day for WET Banking! (WET Bucks = Team Points for the Olympics)

Friday- RETURN PARENT SURVEYS AND LETTERS! Today is the Camp WET Olympics!!!

 We all WIN when we care for our waterways!

What should I bring to Camp??

• lunch & a snack - try to use REUSABLE containers
• plenty of WATER
• WEAR a bathing suit every day!
• sun block & hat
• shoes (flip flops, crocs, and "water shoes" are great)
• towel (optional)
• you may bring a change of clothes for the end of the day, however, we may or may not have the opportunity to change
• a smile - be ready to have a good time!
